Ned needs a hero to be his safe place. Could that be You?
When you look at Ned, you see a stunning, fluffy boy with a beautiful bushy tail and a quirky eye patch. You see a survivor who was found freezing and broken at the side of the road, and who fought his way back to health. But when Ned looks at the world, he sees something very different. Ned is partially sighted due to an infection before he was even born. To him, a cyclist, a running child, or a sudden movement isn’t just “life,” it might be a terrifying, fast-moving shadow. And because he is scared, his instinct is to protect himself.
The Ned You Will Know Once the front door is closed and the world is shut out, Ned is pure love. He is a devoted, affectionate soulmate who wants nothing more than to snuggle on the sofa with you. He waits by the door for your return, ready to cover you in licks (he loves to lick your ears!). He is incredibly clever—he sits without being asked, knows “paw,” “bed,” and “wait,” and is fully house-trained.
He is a gentle giant who takes treats softly and just wants to be near his human. Ned is a guardian breed dog who can get overwhelmed . Ned is wary of people he doesn’t know. But with slow introductions is absolutely fine He has on two occasions In the past, when frightened or handled unexpectedly, nipped, which resulted in bruising, so he needs slow introductions and space. Ned wears a muzzle on walks. He is perfectly happy to wear it (especially for a treat!), but it is essential because he can lunge at triggers like some dogs, bikes or children
Ned gets very anxious about sharing his resources, so he would be best as an only dog .. Although he does currently live with another dog ( elderly lab ) and a cat
Ned is looking for a quiet life where he doesn’t have to be brave all the time. A rural semi rural home, Adults Only: a single person or a couple. No children or visiting grandchildren, please. Ned needs a large, secure garden. He loves his “zoomies” to burn off steam, however, when he is in “zoomie mode,” he gets very over-excited and can nip if you get in his way, so he needs a garden big enough where you can stand back and let him have his fun safely.
We are looking for someone with guardian breed experience Someone who understands a muzzle is a tool for safety, not shame. Ned is not a “park dog” or a “pub dog.” He is a loyal, loving companion for a quiet home. He has been through so much, and he just needs someone who understands him. Are you the one to help him feel safe?
Ned is also good with cats and at obedience training
Thank you for your interest in Ned. If you would like to apply to adopt one of our dogs, please read the ‘How do I Adopt’ pages, where you can find more information about the process and the costs involved.
As you can imagine, each one of our dogs is very precious to us, they haven’t had the best start in life and therefore it is absolutely crucial we find the right homes for them. When you complete a registration form, please tell us as much as you can about why you are looking to adopt a dog and how you think you can meet their needs. Every dog is an individual and our amazing rehoming team will know exactly what type of home each dog needs to thrive. For example, will the dog cope with a small garden or is it the type of dog who needs to live in a rural environment? Will the dog enjoy being around children, or is it best suited to an adult only home? Will it cope sharing a home with other pets, or is it best as an only dog? Are you outdoorsy types who like to go hiking, or would you prefer a dog who is happy to snuggle up on the sofa with you? Our rehoming team will be very familiar with the needs of each of our dogs and the information you provide on your application form will help them to match you with the right dog.
