Meet the Marvelous Myrtle!

We have a very special new arrival to introduce to you all. Meet Myrtle, a sweet and gentle soul who began her journey to a new life on Sunday . Myrtle’s story is a bit of a mystery. She was surrendered by a previous owner who had rescued her from a difficult situation, but sadly, they could no longer care for her after welcoming a new baby. We were told she was three years old, deaf, and blind—but after a trip to the vet this morning, we have some updates

The Truth About Myrtle – She is indeed deaf, but we are thrilled to share that she is NOT blind! Our vet estimates she is actually around 5–6 years old. It’s clear she’s had a tough road; she has had puppies in the past and has likely never seen a vet before now. She arrived unchipped, unvaccinated, and not spayed.

Despite everything, she is a “sweet, gentle girl” who is settling in beautifully. Her old name was McGonagle, but we believe a fresh start deserves a fresh identity. At the suggestion of Mary’s vet, she is now our lovely Myrtle. It truly takes a village! When the call went out to our Adopter & Fosterer group, one of our amazing adopters, Derrin, stepped up immediately. Derrin drove the entire way to get Myrtle safely into the arms of her wonderful foster mum, Mary. We are so grateful for our incredible community!

Myrtle isn’t quite ready for her forever home just yet. Before she’s available for adoption, she needs to be spayed and microchipped, have a full course of vaccinations, dental work, a much-needed pedicure and a full assessment to ensure we find her the perfect match.

Thank you for your interest in Myrtle. If you would like to apply to adopt one of our dogs, please read the ‘How do I Adopt’ pages, where you can find more information about the process and the costs involved.

As you can imagine, each one of our dogs is very precious to us, they haven’t had the best start in life and therefore it is absolutely crucial we find the right homes for them. When you complete a registration form, please tell us as much as you can about why you are looking to adopt a dog and how you think you can meet their needs. Every dog is an individual and our amazing rehoming team will know exactly what type of home each dog needs to thrive. For example, will the dog cope with a small garden or is it the type of dog who needs to live in a rural environment? Will the dog enjoy being around children, or is it best suited to an adult only home? Will it cope sharing a home with other pets, or is it best as an only dog? Are you outdoorsy types who like to go hiking, or would you prefer a dog who is happy to snuggle up on the sofa with you? Our rehoming team will be very familiar with the needs of each of our dogs and the information you provide on your application form will help them to match you with the right dog.

We’d love to chat…
